- When preparing and serving the daily menu, you should not choose dishes that will put your guests in a difficult situation. There may be dishes that people cannot eat due to special reasons, illness or religious beliefs. Asking for such dishes at the beginning and removing them from the menu or preparing a special alternative for that person are among the options you can choose.
- In terms of hospitality, the host must definitely serve the best part of the meal to the other person. If a different person is serving, the host must be informed about this.
- You may have spent a lot of time making delicious meals or you may want your guests to be well fed. However, it is important that you do not insist more than three times when offering treats.
- Although the order of serving food starts from the right of the host, on a day when important guests are being hosted, you should serve the first course to the guest of honor.
- It is also beneficial to stay away from hot, spicy and garlicky foods that may put your guests in a difficult situation.
Different Service Types in World Cuisine
Service types are basically divided into four different groups. Restaurants usually choose one of these four different methods when deciding on the way to serve food. Let's take a closer look at these types, which are named after four different nations: British, French, Russian and American.
American Service
American Service, which is one of the most preferred service types in our country, is basically known as plate service. In this service type, which is frequently encountered in the casual dining concept, the entire plate comes to the table ready. The food plate, decorated with sauces and garnishes in the kitchen, is served directly to the table. The staff serving the food only focuses on serving drinks, and does not need to make any different preparations for plate service.
French Service
The French Service, which goes beyond the service definition we are accustomed to, is called “Service a la Française” in French. In this service method, certain ingredients are cooked in advance, but the plating process is done at the station called “Gueridon”. In order for the service person to be able to plate the food at this station, which is placed next to the table, they also need to undergo special training. The meals listed as starters, appetizers, main courses and desserts are served in an extremely stylish manner.
British Service
English Service, also known as Family Service, has the appearance of a crowded table. In this type of service, all the products are placed on the table and the people eating serve themselves. After completing their own service, they pass the food to the people next to them. In this way, everyone serves themselves. The service staff checks if there is anything missing after bringing the food.
Russian Service
Russian Service, which is very similar to French Service in terms of system, differs in terms of the products used. Foods plated at a station called Gueridon are served on silver plates. Offering a very stylish and elegant appearance, this service model stands out with its silverware.
